Petersburg, Virginia is steeped in history and tradition, much like J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. What started as a furniture store on Bollingbrook Street back in 1856 has grown into one of the oldest funeral homes in the country.
To mark this milestone in our history we have planned several events throughout the course of the year.

February:An essay contest among local area high school students on the topic of "How they want to be Remembered"
March: Documentary by Larry Cappetto entitled “Lest They Be Forgotten”, detailing events from the beaches of Normandy in WWII
April: Time capsule with artifacts to be buried in Historical Blandford Cemetery — Click Here For Details
May: Reenactment of a 19th century funeral — Click Here For Details
June thru December: Traveling exhibition on The Evolution of Death: Burial and Mourning Traditions. This exhibition will examine how the traditions surrounding death and mourning have changed over the centuries. The exhibit will open in Petersburg on June 9, 2006 and will then travel to Chesterfield and Hopewell — Click Here For Details
